Psalms, 87

1. <A Psalm [or] Song for the sons of Korah.> His foundation [is] in the holy mountains.

2. The LORD loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.

3. Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.

4. I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this [man] was born there.

5. And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.

6. The LORD shall count, when he writeth up the people, [that] this [man] was born there. Selah.

7. As well the singers as the players on instruments [shall be there]: all my springs [are] in thee.

Psalm 2:6: "I consecrated my king in Zion, my holy mount." This verse highlights the role of Zion as the place where God established his kingdom and where the king chosen by him would be enthroned.

Psalm 48:2: "It is beautiful in its elevation, the joy of all the earth is Mount Zion, in the far north, the city of the great king." This verse exalts the beauty and importance of Zion, which is seen as the city of the great king.

Isaiah 60:14: "The children of your oppressors shall come to you bent; all who despised you will be prostrated to your feet and will call you the city of the Lord, Zion of the Holy of Israel." This verse highlights how the enemies of Zion will be humiliated and how the city will be honored and recognized as the city of the Lord.

Psalm 122:3-4: "Jerusalem is built as a firmly established city. It is there that the tribes of the Lord rise, the tribes of Israel, to yield thanks to the name of the Lord." This verse highlights how the tribes of Israel would gather in Zion to worship the Lord and surrender thanks to his name.
